About Me

Karen's Quirky Style
I have a monthly column in The Village Sun that features my look of the month. Sometimes I change my haircolor to match the clothes I plan to wear! The shoots for this column are usually in the West Village of New York, wearing clothes from local stores or designers to promote local business. My columns also tell inside stories of the NYC locations where we shoot.

Print Ads
I am often featured in ads for local businesses, such as the Juice and Joy ad in my Modeling album. In 2022, my go-to drycleaner with the friendliest folks in the city, Jerri’s Cleaners, engaged me for a six-month ad campaign in print, online, and in The Village Sun’s daily email newsletter. See the Modeling album for the December 2022 ad.

Fashion Highlights
One of the biggest thrills of my life was the editorial fashion photoshoot for a Vogue cover. (https://karensquirkystyle.com/2019/10/10/inside-the-vogue-cover-shoot/) I also portrayed Kris Jenner for a Kardashian send-up for the recently revived Brit publication The Face magazine. So fun!

I’ve worked as a runway model in fantastic New York locations ranging from Washington Square Park to the United Nations. I wore several gorgeous Nime Jamal gowns at a fashion show for the Nigerian Embassy. One of the most iconic catwalks in the West Village is Bleecker Street, where I did a runway show for my favorite designer, Engineered by Andrea T.

Patrick McMullan photographed me at the Tagliatella Galleries art opening in Chelsea for Getty Images--that was a real honor.

Honoring David Bowie
I was also thrilled to meet David Bowie's photographer, Mick Rock, at a Bowie photo exhibit in SoHo. I ran the New York marathon dressed as Bowie, in his memory, in 2016. I also won first prize in the New York Road Runner's Retro Five Mile race, dressed as Bowie. Dancing for the crowd probably helped! I was honored to conduct the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra at their Bowie tribute concert, again in full Bowie costume. My hair style is often a Ziggy cut, as you may have noticed, and is usually a shade of red. People on the street compliment me on it every day! I dressed as Bowie again for World Pride 2019--check out the image of me with 4 police officers in my 2019 Modeling Album.

Advanced Style
I love director Lina Plioplyte's movie about older New York women who dress in their own unique style. I saw this right before my first visit to New York, and it inspires me to be an older woman of style, and to participate in the new wave of women of all sizes, shapes, colors, and ages being featured in fashion shoots and on the runway.

If you're looking for a quirky model to express a unique joi de vivre for your clothes or other products, drop me a line. I am also interested in art photography projects.
