Inspired by the still lifes and chiaruscuros of the 1500 Dutch Golden Ages, along with the work of Caravaggio, Rembrandt, van Aelst, and its other masters, my work aims to not only capture the stillness and beauty found in a time long gone, but modernize it so that we might find the same simple beauty in our everyday lives. Bowls of fruit, gold chalices, long strands of grapes hanging from the table's edge; these are some of the motifs you might find in my other work. While studying art history, I've become intrigued with the notion of the "human still life." Stories told out through long gazes, the pillar of a spine, the suppleness of a mouth.
