Short Version:
I'm an aspiring Sustainable Fashion Designer that is graduating from Santa Monica College in June. I've always wanted to be a designer but didn't think I was creative. I originally pursued careers in merchandising and modeling. Moving on to music, doing PR and administrative work. Then onto more admin duties for a water feature artist, & Voice Over Talent Agency before returning to my true passion of design. I'm presenting my first runway collection & am hoping to connect with some fresh faces that would like to be part of an amazing fashion show.
As I continue to immerse myself in the sustainable fashion world I am filed with gratitude that my lifelong dream of becoming a fashion designer now has a much more purposeful passion attached to it. I had the pleasure of becoming a part of the Beyond the Label team. Beyond the Label's goal is to educate people of the serious problems of the fast fashion model while teaching about sustainable options and innovations in the field of sustainable fashion. There catch phrase is #MakeShiftHappen and that is exactly what we are doing
Long Version:
My love of fashion began in kindergarten. My mother would make these beautiful long dresses for me and my sister to wear to school. I remember being so excited that my mother would take all of this time to make these amazing creation just for me and my sister. I would wait with anticipation to see the final garment. It was the only one in the whole world and it was just for me. It was special. After high school I moved to the bright lights of Los Angeles from a small farm in Indiana to pursue my dreams of modeling and fashion. I completed one year of a 2 year Fashion Merchandising degree. I had always dreamed of designing clothes but did not believe that I had the creative skills or ability for such a career. I could not have been more wrong.
Flash forward to 2013. I finally discovered that not only was I creative but I was bubbling over with creativity that was just waiting to be expressed. I decided to attend Santa Monica College to not only finish my Fashion Merchandising degree but to pursue my real dream of becoming a fashion designer. Before graduating in June with my Associate of the Arts in Fashion Design I look forward to creating my first full sustainable runway collection for La Mode Fashion Show 2017 at SMC. I truly enjoy creating beautiful things that make people feel special. While attending SMC I have been blessed to discover many other passions beyond fashion. Such as Dance, Yoga, Yoga Philosophy, Environmental Ethics such as Sustainable Fashion. I could not be more grateful that so many of my passions are coming together at this moment to cultivate a future of innovation and much needed change in the fashion world and beyond. I am so excited to continue developing my brand so that I can not only create beautiful sustainable clothes but also bring awareness to society of the importance of this issue. As a strong follower of yoga philosophy I look forward to sharing these ancient teachings through my sustainable brand image and philosophy. My goal is to teach people to live more in harmony with our planet. Many people say that most people don't care about where their clothes come from. But I believe that people don't care about what they don't know about. I could not be more excited to be a part of the much needed shift in the fashion industry that is happening and needs to continue to happen. My message is a revolutionary one and I look forward to discovering ways to create more of a cradle-to-cradle fashion industry and step away from the horrifying cradle-to-grave system that we now have.
