Henna is a paste that is made from the leaves of a plant.

I mix my own henna paste. The ingredients in my paste are: 100% organic henna powder, coffee, lemon juice, essential oils.

Henna tattoos last 7-14 days

The color of your tattoo will change as the stain oxidizes throughout the first 3 days.
--The tattoo will go from a bright orange to red and finally brown.

Some area of the body stain more easily than others.
--Hands and feet absorb darker color than shoulders or thighs.

Reversely, some areas last longer than others.
--Hands are the first to go because they are washed so often. Shoulders and thighs last longer.

The color of your stain depends on a lot of different factors. If you want a dark stain follow these steps:
-Exfoliate the area prior to application.
-Leave the paste on as long as possible. Ideal exposure time is 8 hours but the longer the paste is on your skin the darker your stain will be.
-Keep your skin warm. Warm skin absorbs the color much easier than cold skin.
-Wear a dark article of clothing over the paste to keep it in place longer.
-Do NOT wash the paste off with water. Water will interfere with the oxidization process and leave you with a weak stain. Instead rub the area with coconut oil (or any kind of body oil) to remove left over paste and condition the skin. Avoid water for 24 hours.
