About Me

Brazilian journalist, since 2011 Josias Teófilo is collaborator in magazine Continente, where he writes mostly about art and interviewed personalities such as Hélène Grimaud, Boris Schnaiderman, Phillipe Jarrousky, Marlos Nobre, Paulo Mendes da Rocha, João Moreira Salles. His first short movie, Quarteto Simbólico (Symbolic Quartet), about the modernist architect Delfim Amorim, was featured in more than 40 festivals in Brazil and won best documentary prize from Festcine in Recife and now the movie is part of university architecture programs. Josias is photographer, specialized in analogic photography, had his exhibition O templum-tempus shown in São Paulo in 2014. His Flickr has more the 10 million visits. He's author of the essay O Cinema Sonhado (The Dream Cinema), winner of the price Antônio de Brito Alves as the best essay from Pernambuco Academy of Letters. The book is about his grandfather, Pedro Teófilo Batista, who were a film-maker, self-taught inventor and made two movies with 35mm in the 60's. In 2015 Josias created the featured documentary filme O Jardim das Aflições (The Garden of Afflictions), about the philosopher Olavo de Carvalho, in Virginia (EUA). The movie was founded via crowdfunding and was the biggest crowdfunding campaign for a movie in history of Brazil. In 2016 it will be release an intelectual biography about Olavo de Carvalho, with photographies by Josias and interviews made by the journalist Wagner Carelli. Currently, Josias is studying Andrei Tarkovski's work and his relationship with religious traditional russian icons and Pavel Florenski's thoughts.
