About Me

Pic Of The Day 18+ Men Winner- Oct. 3, 2017.

**** As Of 2021 I Am Shooting Exclusively Film, 35mm & Medium Format.****

My passion lies in capturing human emotion, namely through body language, captured in Dreamy/ Ethereal/ Haunting/ Edgy/ Evocative images.

I shoot only with available light: be it daylight, a candle, flashlight, streetlamp, or a motorcycle headlight. I prefer to shoot in awkward, decrepit, abandoned, or decayed environments. Post-editing is minimal, it's film.

I prefer shooting for TF. Working with models who enjoy the experience of creating meaningful art, or those interested in expanding their portfolio's with some very unique work. I love collaborating with a model, being engaged in the creative process, rather than simply photograph one. For that you'll receive in a timely fashion copies of all the original film scans in high-resolution. Film is expensive, that's just the reality of using this medium. If you're interested in working with me but only work paid assignments please let me know, I'll do all I can for an opportunity to work with you. I have a good rapport and a great working relationship with a number of models, please see my Verified Credits below.

My motorcycle is my sole source of transportation, please bear that in mind if I'm traveling for a shoot.

If I Friend Request you it's genuine. I don't unless I'm interested in working/ collaborating together, regardless if should be on the other side of the country!

For those interested in seeing a broader scope of my work, including my painting and other photography:

"Ian was an absolute joy to work with. He showed up on location, in the pouring rain, on a motorcycle, doing is very best to keep our shoot plans. Our initial location was flooding and closed, but still Ian maintained a positive attitude and embarked upon a real adventure in an effort to find an alternate location. In the end, we found a sweet spot and took one breathtaking image after another. Ian is an intuitive shooter who get into the flow and follows the image. As a fellow artist, I really value that. Ian is thoughtful, respectful, transparent and professional. He also gave me a bunch of instax from our shoot and suggested I sell them, or do with them what I please--That also does not happen often, in my experience. I totally give Ian my recommendation." "I really enjoyed working with Retrograde Amnesia! There is a quiet humility in his creative process that is refreshing to encounter. Our shoot was a true creative collaboration, and the results were beautiful. We shot in very cold conditions but he was great about letting me take frequent breaks to warm up, never seeming impatient to start shooting again. He was professional and respectful at all times. I look forward to working together again sometime!" Read less

"Anyone can take a picture but artistic photography requires a keen eye and emotion. Ian brings what is needed to make artistic and natural images. My first shoot with Retrograde Amnesia Art was thrilling and very cold. Ian took every measure possible to keep be warm and comfortable during the shoot. I also received a large number of edited images, some were even edited multiple ways, allowing me to choose what I liked best. I would suggest any model work with Retrograde Amnesia Art if they have the chance." Read less

"Had a wonderful shoot in a spectacular location with which I wish we had more time to play. He works with efficiency and a clear idea of what he would like out of each image, the delicate and selective eye of an artist. Retrograde has been respectful before, after, and during the shoot. He's passionate about what he's doing, this is evident and refreshing. Work with him, it will be worth your time." Read less
