Hi! I'm a pro photographer working mostly in the Washington DC metro area. I have 20+ years of experience doing mainly portraiture, fashion, product, and food work for commercial and editorial markets. I also own a large boutique studio in Fairfax VA (a suburb of DC) called HOIST (http://www.hoiststudio.com), and I run a company committed to supporting the work of artists and creative professionals.

I am on MM mainly to connect with talented models, makeup artists, hairstylists, and other creatives to collaborate with me in creating work that is not (or cannot be) financed by commercial clients... things like: spec editorials, artistic or personal work, commercial portfolio enhancement/rebranding, avant-garde fashion, and projects that are too speculative or (aesthetically) experimental for a commercial client. What matters most to me is the quality of the work we produce, growing aesthetically, and realizing the vision; I am not interest in cutting corners, being told "no" by accountants, or doing work that is just "good enough".

SELECTIVITY: I sincerely appreciate everyone who expresses an interest in working with me (I try to respond to all serious inquiries), but I do have constraints that require me to be selective about who I work with. If I can't work with you at the moment, please don't take it personally! It could be my schedule, or the nature of the projects I'm currently working on, or any number of other reasons... and I may be able to work with you in the future! 

COMPENSATION: This can be a potentially intricate subject... but the short version is this:

    - Any work that we do together should be mutually beneficial, and everyone should be sufficiently compensated for their contribution in a manner they find acceptable
    - I do not sell my services/work via MM
    - I'm happy to pay creatives for their work and valuable contributions to a project
    - I invest significant resources and expertise into any project that I produce
    - I am open to trade with outstanding or unique talent, but I am also hesitant to accept trade projects with people who I have not worked with before; feel free to propose something, but please do not be offended if I decline or suggest an alternative arrangement
    - I give all contributors due credit for their work whenever I use/publish it
    - I believe in supporting your work by enabling you to use my images for personal promotion (portfolio, social media) whenever possible, but there are some complex considerations that determine whether or not this is in fact possible; if/when I can give you images I will, but unless we explicitly agree that images are part of your compensation (such as in a trade), please do not expect to be given any particular images within any particular timeframe
    - I expect a full rights release from every model after every shoot; if you have concerns about this, discuss them with me before the day of the shoot
    - If you have any questions about compensation (both financial and non-financial), discuss it with me before the day of the shoot

FRIEND REQUESTS: I'm old-fashioned in the sense that I think of "friends" as people with whom I have a real-life relationship. I will totally be your MM Friend once we have worked together! ;-)
