About Me

Hi there!

My name is Cameron Jones. I hail from a small rural town in New Zealand called, Hawkes Bay, where I spent the first 18 years of my life growing up in a rural and hands-on environment.

I spent the majority of my life outdoors, surfing, at the beach, kayaking, exploring. Anything outdoors was my playground. I then moved to Wellington where I was selected our nations most prestigious drama school, and studied classical forms of theatre for three years. After graduating, I landed a core role on our most popular tv show, Shortland Street, before deciding to make a move over to LA at the beginning of 2015.

My biggest passion though is conservation, and specifically, global warming. I work with many NGO's back in NZ including Shark Alliance (which successfully banned shark fins in NZ waters), and Generation Zero, in which I was their head ambassador. Generation Zero is a organisation looking to curb Co2 levels in NZ, and to address climate change in our small country. I worked very closely with local council and government, including doing speeches at council chambers to bring awareness and our campaigns to those at the top. I'm very proud to be a part of Generation Zero and all the changes it has made, in the transport sector specifically, back in NZ, and I was proud and honoured to be guest speaker at schools to teach youth about our cause.

To me, the next generations biggest problem though, is attitude. I fear with current role models being who they are, we will have a generation wanting everything for nothing, and values on materialistic dreams. I want to see youth aspire to be the next Elon Musk, or the next Neil Degrasse Tyson. To want to have an impact on the world in a significant way, and to recognise the importance of global issues and our environment.

I am also a type one diabetic. I take insulin seven times a day, and it has not stopped me from achieving my dreams. I have worked on television and film back home, been a climate change ambassador, an ambassador for Diabetes NZ, and a keen sportsman while successfully managing my condition. While not life threatening, I like to take a 'no excuses' approach to life and want to share that story with youth so that they may not let anything hold them back.

I'm very proud to come from not only a small country on the other side of the world, but I am proud to come from a small farming town in that small country. The values I hold from my humble upbringings back home, now has me on the biggest stage in the world, and I'm ready to take that challenge head on and be an inspiration for all those who hold doubt...
