After a lengthy struggle with how she wanted to leave her mark on this world, makeup artist Avalon Hurley eventually settled on doing so in lipstick and glitter. As a young child, Avalon differed from her peers, romanticizing over movie monsters, pinup queens, and rock n’ roll gods. A distant relative to Edgar Allan Poe, it was only natural that she had both beauty and morbidity flowing through her veins. It wasn’t long after countless dance recitals, cheerleading events, and many wild nights of Rocky Horror showings that her friends began noting that she was a standout when it came to her makeup and costuming. Always trying to one-up her friends and colleagues, Avalon took great pride in scheming up new looks for whatever situation she found herself in. Around 18 years of age, she cut her own bangs to resemble those of Bettie Page and further indulged in her interest in retro makeup. Years later, Avalon still finds inspiration from her childhood favorites and has since found her niche in aspiring to create anything from the highest of glamour to the goriest of creatures.
