About Me

HOME ABOUT CONTACT
I'm Kyle Duncan. I currently live and work in North Carolina. I attended Randolph Community College, a technical school in NC, where I graduated with my degree in Commercial Photography and Videography. My story began a few years ago, when attending a small high school in the town in which I lived growing up. Through this school and through the people surrounding me in those years, I was influenced greatly in positive ways. Towards the end of high school, I discovered who I am and what my passion is in life, and moreover, the person I believe God has called me to be. I was always a little different growing up...always the creative and adventurous one, the one no one seemed to quite understand or be able to relate to. But through photography I became able to create and adventure as I pleased, and in this way, I found that I could help people understand who I am, and the thing that makes that so wonderful, is that I'm using the talent God has given to me. But hey now, just because I figured out I have a talent for capturing these images doesn't mean it's always that easy or simple to do! I think that when doing just about anything in life, and especially for me as a photographer, it is important to realize and remember often that even the things that you love doing and have a fire for in life take some hard, hard work, much patience, and steady dedication. I remember the day I started shooting for the first time. My family had just recently bought me a Nikon D7000 with a 24-85 2.8-4D. I went outside and started shooting Manual for the first time, and I thought to myself, "This will be easy..." but man, was I wrong! I struggled so much trying to figure out what I needed to do in order to get the picture I was looking for. And that was when I figured that it was time for some research. In the beginning, I began talking with as many photographers as I could find, learning whatever I could from them. After talking to them, I realized something that they all had in common: individuality. It was at this time that I realized that everyone sees life differently, and therefore, everyone’s photography should be different. A lot of the time I had tried to copy other photographer's work, because I thought that there was usually a set way to do things when it came to taking photos, but my views changed after speaking with more experienced people in this business. So at that point I was beginning to understand what I needed to do when it came to embarking in my career in photography. First, I started out working with a photographer close to home, who was also a good friend of mine. He was a fantastic person to learn from, and I was fortunate enough to shoot with him often. It was working with him and later on other photographer mentors early on that really opened my eyes to how difficult but also how rewarding photography can be.
