The purpose of my work is not to make a picture or drawing at all. What I do is document freedom from judgment and routine. I explore breaking boundaries enforced by critical thinking which normally serves us so well.

My formal training began with Chinese Art and Art history on the island of Taiwan in 1991-92. At this time I was accepted by a circle of painters and given a Chinese name. The insignia on my work is my name which I carved myself over 20 years ago in China. When I picked up ‘mark-making’ figure drawing in San Francisco 2011, I drew heavily upon the philosophy from the Far East, combining it with modern research in visual neuroscience.

Even in modern western science, there is no accurate explanation for how we perceive the world the way it really is. My work embraces this and documents a moment in time between two human beings which is real. I’m certain this is why the work appeals to so many people.
