About Me

Scott is fine art photographer from Oregon, that is working on his book project Tribal ID.

Scott McSorley graduated in 1995 with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Photography from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. His work has been shown in galleries throughout New York City, and Portland, Oregon. He has been featured in magazines, newspapers, television in America and Europe. Scott recently raised $2,400 on the crowd funding site : Indie-gogo.(April 2014) Part of the money was raised was from a grant from AANR-NW/Education Foundation. ( American Association for Nude Recreation.)

The Book Project:

Scott’s book project explores man’s (or women’s) need to reconnect with his or her primitives self. By covering their bodies with mud and being present in nature . He has been working on this book project for 14 years now. He has photographed in Colorado, Nevada, and Oregon. His pictures consist of large scale photos depicting the human body covered in mud in a natural environment. Pictures are taken in Black and White 120 film with a Rolleiflex 6006 medium format camera. This is his second book project. His first book is called “Songs of Decay”. Nudes in abandon space in the east and west coast of America.

There are three very important reasons that I would like to continue my work on Tribal ID. The first is the benefit to the models. By participating in my photo shoots many people are able to free themselves from body shame. Some people have no concerns about nudity and allowing themselves to be seen by others, but many more feel uncomfortable in their own skin. By disrobing and applying mud to their own bodies our models break through those barriers. They realize that they are totally accepted for who they are no matter what body type, size or shape they are and that they will be treated with respect, and dignity. The second reason that this work is important is that each photo shoot in Tribal ID. represents a symbol from different cultures and peoples. It is vital that we keep these symbols alive and known to future generations. Last but not least this work is for you, my audience. Art is needed by everyone and I hope that through my photography you are able to see something different, interesting and new. I hope my work makes you wonder and be surprised and fascinated and I hope it brings you as much joy as it has brought me.
