One press of the shutter release button and I've activated my time-machine. Going back in time to an exact moment captured is thought provoking.

Being able to capture a specific moment in time, while traveling or in my back yard, that is special to me, that is the power of photography.

"A picture is worth 1,000 words."

A picture is that, and so much more. Photographs tell a story, they remind of us a special time and place, they are our own special time-machines. Photographs bring us joy, laughter, sometimes pain and peace. Everyone likes to look at photographs of special interests and sometimes they are exposed to new interest, all because of a photograph.

I have been captivated by photography since I was a kid. I think it's because I can recall sitting with my mother and looking through shoeboxes of old photographs. Even at that young age, I knew there was something magical about photography.

I went through the 110 instamatic film phase, can't forget about Polaroids, how about Disk cameras, and it all came together for me when I first became exposed to digital photography.

I took photography in high school. My school had Yashica, Rolleiflex cameras. I remember working in the dark-room, dealing with the chemicals, making test strips and printing the final product. Developing film is a very organic process and a lost art form that a few remaining artisans keep alive.

I think I have owned just about every point and shoot camera that has been on the market since the early 90's. It's amazing how far photography has come since the first color photograph was taken in 1861 by James Clerk Maxwell.

I am a fan of Canon DSLRs, just my preference. I currently shoot with a 7D and a 5D Mark II, and I keep my G9 ready to go on stand-by at a moments notice. Additionally, I am drawn to them because they shoot video in HD, allow for a wide range of different lenses and suit my artistic needs. Such appealing features in well engineered cameras.
