First, I fell in love with art and drawing. I was thrilled learning how light is used to draw images that are multi-dimensional. Lacking innate artistic abilities did not stop me from absorbing all I could learn about drawing and painting. It was thrilling. Then, having owned an expensive digital camera for years that I couldn't shoot except on auto, I decided it was time to learn how to use my camera and how to shoot like an artist. I tend towards images of out of the way and forgotten spaces; portraits only when the subject, the pose, and often the setting are unique, edgy, or avant-garde. I am enamored with graffiti. I love Richard Avedon's 'Steal Your Soul' body of work -- it's the only way I'll shoot a portrait in a studio. I also love the work of Keith Cater, most especially his blurring of the primary subject while focusing on secondary -- it is masterful. If you would like me to photograph you, be prepared. There won't be any glamour shots or cheesy smiles. I'll work to capture the best of you. You must bring your best to the shoot.
