Hello, Model Mayhem!

My name is Melissa and by day, I work in an office as an engineer for city government issuing permits for construction in the public right of way. It is a standard "go to work for 8 hours at an office" kind of place.

Outside of my regular day job, I turn to photography and food as an outlet for the creative side which I am not able to use in my career (as I work in code compliance and adhering to specific standards of construction).

I would love to be a part of the Model Mayhem community and take part in creating live art that could speak a bit of who I am. I would love to have the chance to photograph different kinds of people, with different looks and styles. I have been photographing friends and friends of friends to get myself started. I've found that over the years, taking photos of people is much more challenging than the still photos I often took of landscapes and food (my passion!). Being able to capture a person's personality in a photo brings such a feeling of pride and satisfaction.

I'd like to be able to experiment with new concepts for shoots, and I'm hoping that here at Model Mayhem, I can develop more creativity and inspiration from others here.

Other things I enjoy in my free time are snowboarding, hiking, traveling, trying new restaurants and cooking. I found that these activities further encourage my use of photography, which makes me enjoy them so much more than I did years ago!
