Wilfredo Parra is a local Los Angeles-based self-taught fashion designer. Both of his parents worked in the fashion industry while grewing up he observed the garments construction and became very fascinated with the possibilities of using fabric as a construction instrument. At a young age his mother started to teach him the basics, and slowly started working with patterns, cutting, embellishments, and sewing.
Wilfredo went to college to study Communications and Public Relations and was fortunate to obtain an internship at a showroom in Downtown Los Angeles. In less than a month he received a position at that showroom. He was given artistic freedom with merchandise display and got the attention of a lot of people. Wilfredo built relationships and his portfolio and chose to stay in the fashion industry. His colleagues urged him to work in the creative side and start working with local designers. After working with several local designers, he felt like he was being held back artistically; he then branched out to form his own label in 2013 allowing him to have ultimate create control. Allowing him to work with his clients in a more personal manner . Throughout his career he had come to appreciate both men’s tailoring and the minimalism of knitwear and he applied both to his designs, bringing these elements to power his designs without sacrificing femininity.
