The Journey… my Sonia Elise story

Picture the words courage, bravery, respect, independence, love and determination. Now.. personify those words and imagine they have a 5’8 developed feminine figure, with hazel brown skin and eyes to match. Add a smile that would warm a soul, and a voice that commands your attention so elegantly with each word. That ladies and gentlemen is the beautiful Sonia Powell, a 22 years young, fashion-forward African-American (with European French Descent) beautician, model and local icon whose skills and talent has earned her respect and notoriety from fellow co-workers, friends, clients and even celebrities. Never in the same place for too long, Ms Powell has gained inspiration from all over and has incorporated the experiences she has learned into her craft. Growing up, Ms Powell always had an eye for creativity and colors and enjoyed coming up with designs. Whether it was helping her mom and siblings get dressed for the day or playing around with friends or her own hair, she always had a yearning for creativity and knew that hairstyling might be a path she walked down. Ms Powell has had experiences in styling as far back as 12 years old were she worked in a salon doing odd jobs and advising. At 22 years of age, Ms Powell is embarking in a promising career which she stated “… that will never stop teaching. It’s an experience that will constantly evolve with each transformation and there’s just no limit to what and how creativity will mold itself.” She has had training from the best including the world renowned AVEDA INSTITUTE and Graham Webb. When Ms. Powell was asked about her thoughts on Beauty she responded, “Beauty is confidence… it’s a very simple, yet easy concept that can be applied to any and every aspect of life. When you look great, you feel great. As a stylist, I enjoy watching a client’s face light up as the confidence skyrockets from their eyes, and you see a glow and feel an aurora and witness this physical and emotional transformation that you helped create-and to me at the end of the day is very worth it. So pretty much when you look great, you feel great, and when you feel great you do great things.” Ms Powell’s determination and motivation is something that is inspirational and worth citing. Her past has brought her to her present which will lead her to her future as an ICON.
