I photograph because I’m chronically melancholic. I like to point my camera towards human drama; I like to investigate what’s the story behind people – not what they’re presenting me with. I go for the in-between the smiles, the blurred story between the lines. That’s what interests me. I like to see the spark in the eye, the intrigue, the mystery, the tension, the not-so-obvious. I like to photograph life in bursts of movement, in series, in continuation. I like the sequence of actions. I like to photograph the naked, the bare, the stripped of all. I like to photograph uncomplicated images, with lots of negative space, lots of breathing way, with lots of digesting time. I like the flare, the grain, the blur, the out of focus, the short depth of field. I like all that’s supposedly wrong in the photograph. Rebellious images are more interesting. I like portraits. I like the fantastical truth. I like contradiction. I like to keep my boundaries free to not label or bottle my work. There’s a lot of reasons why I photograph that I’m not aware of. But I’m in it for the investigation, the experimentation.
