About Me

Harry McDermott

Born and raised in Arkansas, Harry McDermott became infatuated with art in the second grade watching a schoolmate draw a picture of a horse during math hour. He regarded her as a sorceress. After his sixth grade teacher required him and his fellow classmates to paint and draw as part of his curriculum, Harry spent too much time drawing away his hours on a sketch pad in his room, which resulted in his parents suspecting he was possibly gay.

He took a high school art class and also enrolled in a figure drawing class at night. Being confronted with his first nude model at the Arkansas Art Center, he became red-faced embarrassed at having only a charcoal sketch of a pair of breasts on his art pad at the end of his first art class exercise.

Although he did not major in art, he took too many art classes at the University at Arkansas which resulted his mixed media of nudes, entitled “Southern Women” being displayed at the Arkansas State Capitol and his mixed media “Fall” still being displayed at Memorial Hall at the University of Arkansas. Since graduating he has had his art displayed at Arsaga's, Walton Art Center, Art Expo NWA, the Art Gallery, Gallery 111, and Whimsical Gallery.
