Many will claim that there is nothing more powerful than love, but when the flaws of society wouldn't allow soul mates to reach the love life offered them; it was an undeniable lust that created a pathway so deep and alluring, that neither Erick Schultz nor Afrika Williams could resist the temptation that lured them through it.

Hidden in the rural town of Vancouver Washington lies a secret society of a proud Aryan Brotherhood. A gang of brutal thugs with one mission: to protect and preserve White supremacy at all costs. Erick Johnathan Schultz is not only one of their ring leaders, but he is the very man expected to carry on the legacy of his grandfather; a local idol, highly respected for his reputation and former grand dragon of the towns prosperous KKK.

After experiencing members of his skin heads party viciously rape a young African American girl, Erick is shocked into a level of humanity that changes his complete perception of life; a perception that would only continue to be altered, as he gets lost deeper in darkness. Darkness named Afrika; a 19 year old student he shares a secluded bus stop with, and had been fantasizing about victimizing in the same manner.

Stranded in her territory he finds protection in her home, but they must confront the stains in American History in a way that's never been done before. Raw, honest and peaceful. They carry on a secret association and challenge one and other mentally and spiritually before finally giving in to the physical pull of desire. But when love crosses the line, a toll must be paid. And as the wages of sin is death, this too must be paid off in blood. It is a wage so high it demands a coin with a head on both sides.

Afrika Williams is more than the shy schoolgirl she appears to be. She is a young civil rights activist, cultural group leader at her community college and the first lady to the ring leader of the Black Panthers gang. A man referred to as King Kong, a ruthless, territorial young man whose savage tactics earned him fear and respect throughout his community, a neighborhood known as the jungle. And the further she strays from him, the tighter his hold gets.

In a perfect world, Erick and Afrika could love one and other without consequence. She could shamelessly fall into the protection of his arms and they could merge together like coffee and cream, flowing as one into infinite bliss. But before they can be awarded with the world’s greatest prize, they must first win a potentially fatal battle that literally puts them against their worlds; in Between the Shades:
