Macy Freeman was born in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1994. She is attending school at Columbia College Chicago and is working towards receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts in photography with a concentration in fashion. She began her business Macy Marie Photography in 2010 and is currently working out of Chicago as well as Indianapolis.


Artist Statement:

Photography is an artistic instrument that allows me to express my ideas in an interesting and captivating way. This can impact and change the observer’s view, but it also affects me. Photography forces me into a deeper contemplation of the issues around us. Art is also liberating. Its possibilities are limitless; permitting an escape from typical boundaries. I believe strongly in diversifying and broadening my scope of photography. An artist should stretch oneself and always try or create new visions. I want my photography to tell a story whether it is mine, another’s, or society’s. I strive for my work to be aesthetically pleasing but more importantly it must have a strong and lasting impact. It is not just the act of putting pencil to paper or clicking a camera button. It is much more. It is a way of examining, appreciating, and expressing life around us.
