Kamala Johnson is an emerging beauty entrepreneur who works with influencers, brands, and multicultural women to bring their visions to life through makeup artistry, digital content, and live experiences.

Kamala believes every woman should experience makeup looks that are timeless and elevated. Kamala’s trademark aesthetic is utilizing various textures to achieve clean yet sculpted skin. She also loves executing makeup looks inspired by editorial and runway trends.

Growing up in Atlanta, Georgia, Kamala was fascinated by photo and video content that highlighted details of the fashion and beauty industries. Through her natural curiosity for beauty, Kamala gained exposure to the art world and cultivated her voice as a makeup artist.

After years of working in the beauty industry and refining her expertise, Kamala moved to New York City for bigger opportunities. Since relocating, she has worked with extraordinary clients and companies including Tai Beauchamp, which allowed her work to be synonymous with brands like Madam C.J Walker Beauty Culture, GeenieBox, InStyle Magazine, Essence Magazine, Gilt, and Huffington Post.

In addition to her one-on-one clients, Kamala has served as the lead and supporting makeup artist for projects such as VH1's Black Ink Crew New York, BET Digital's Situationships Web Series, and various New York Fashion Week shows with Harlem’s Fashion Row, Style Fashion Week, and Melo Made by Carmelo Anthony.

Kamala has trained under professional makeup artist and educator, Mali Thomas, and previously worked for MAC Cosmetics to hone her craft. Some of Kamala's editorial work can be found featured in Solstice Magazine and Ellements Magazine.

Kamala holds a bachelor’s degree in Journalism with a concentration in Public Relations and a minor in Hospitality Administration from Georgia State University. Crediting her education, Kamala has used the skills she’s learned throughout her career to add media consultant and event production assistant to her professional portfolio.

As a media consultant, Kamala has placed clients in MadamNoire, Ebony Magazine, Essence Magazine, Her Agenda, Blavity, Kontrol Magazine, and amNewYork. Working as an event production assistant, she has collaborated with Essence Street Style, Project Beauty Expo, Essence Music Festival, BET Hip Hop Awards, and the Shorty Awards.

Kamala currently thrives in the NYC area working as a freelance makeup artist, brand ambassador, and media consultant. In partnership with SLAYEDHAIRATL, she also co-founded The Beauty Invite, a beauty, hair, and lifestyle expo for multicultural women. Kamala takes pride using visuals to elevated a brand’s message and being the vessel that allows her clients to feel empowered.
