I have attended Art Center Pasadena College Of Design and the Los Angeles Film School. I work in both fine art/painting and in photography/film.
Fine Art/Paintings THE CONSTANT EXAMINATION AND DISINTEGRATION OF THE FLESH My artwork(paintings and drawings) takes a view of the human physical condition as it is deconstructed into two states; Life and Death. The Pressed Series brings together the theme of the subject painted against the surface of the canvas, as if pressed under glass, to be viewed by society like a germ in a Petri-dish. The subject in each piece is a direct reflection of the viewer. Both in how society views themselves and each other. With every boil and blemish being focused on, each paintings subject takes on a morbid-disfigurement as any and all imperfections are immediately brought to the canvas surface. Only a thin piece of glass, or canvas, separates the viewer from the subject and how they view themselves. The second theme takes the viewer from life, as the human body is on a constant collision course with age, bringing it to death and decay in The Paper Paintings. Each work brings to focus the concept of time, and the human conditions imminent need to postpone death, even in all its inevitability. The physical movement of the subject in each piece is active, alive, and yet their physical body is disheveled and falling apart. These pieces show societies need to try an outrun old age and death. Even after the fact that the physical flesh of the subject, in each paintings, time has already expired. Media in both themes revolve around paint and surface. While in the Pressed Series, it is strictly paint and canvas, in the Paper Paintings, much more mixed media is used. The Paper Paintings are shown under a constant rebuilding process. From cardboard, to piping, and anything convenient to try and postpone the paintings disintegration. Both themes tackle a separate viewpoint. One from its beginning, in life, and the other in its end, in death. Photography/Film My films and photography revolve around the fantasy and reality themes. In most all of my work, these two worlds are blurred together, and many times, the characters are struggling to figure out what world they are in, and to recognize this difference. There are various degrees to this theme, from project to project, but the one consistency, is the fact that my work is always centered around character, and their development throughout the project. Just as in my fine art, with the human form being my focus... my films also focus on the inner human condition, and how characters grow from the inside-out. I love working with models, and actors, and love to direct them, and also love to work collaboratively. All of my work is brought together by people using their skills, and working together, for an ultimate vision.
