About Me

Thanks for stopping by!  Here are some basics of working together:

Q: Will I get copies of the pictures?
A: Yes, right after the shoot you'll get a CD with *all* the un-retouched photos from the shoot so you can review them.  In many cases, the images on the CD are not finished images, but still need photoshop work. I'll email retouched photos to you in the days after the shoot.

Q: What will you use the pictures for?
A: Strictly for my portfolio.  You can use the pictures for whatever you like.

Q: How long does a shoot run?
A: Usually 1-2 hours.

Q: Can I bring a friend to the shoot?
A: Yes.  I recommend against bringing Boyfriends/Husbands/Moms/Dads/Significant Others. In my experience, even when entirely well behaved and unobtrusive, their presence changes the dynamic of the shoot in a stifling way for both model and photographer and will usually lessen the quality of the results.

Q: What advice do you have for a beginning model on posing?
A: Look through magazines or portfolios on MM and pick 10 poses that you like and memorize them to the point where you can do them effortlessly.  Actually doing them in front of a mirror might feel funny at first, but it really gets them into your head and builds your body awareness.

Q: What do you think makes a good photographer?
A: Beyond getting great results, in my opinion a good photographer:  *Communicates constantly with the model in a positive, affirming way.  *Lets the model freely do her thing as much as possible. *Starts with a plan in mind, but is flexible enough to let the shoot evolve organically--very often the best shots are not pre-planned, which is part of the fun and magic of it.  *Delivers pictures in a timely manner. *Accepts and repects a model's posing and wardrobe limits without question.  *Is a decent, well-tempered, all-around nice person...as opposed to a hot-headed jerkwad with a chip on his shoulder.

Q: What do you love about photographing?
A: Ultimately it's the results that are the most gratifying.  But getting there is at least half the fun:  *The give and take of collaborating with a model, *Working a particular outdoor location or studio set. *Reviewing the pictures with the model after the shoot. It's a rush when the "the one" (or ones) pop up on the screen and we both know it instantly! *Doing the photoshop work on the best pictures is the icing on the cake and really makes the pictures shine.

Q:  What kind of models do you work with?
A:  I work with top professionals, absolute newbies, and everyone in between.  Although I prefer to work with advanced amateurs (and up) who know how to pull poses out of the hat one after another, I've been known to work with just about anybody who has the look I'm after and will actually show up.
