Leo D. Cortes grew up in Boston Massachusetts and began to express through art what he could never do with words, pencil and paper became an
extension of his own imagination. Despite the hardships of inner city life he was inspired to study art
and earned scholarships to Montserrat College of Art but his burning desire to see the world compelled
him to travel to Costa Rica once again to rekindle cultural roots, but it didn't stop there. After
September 11th 2001, he felt the need to explore first hand what the war was all about. On October 16th
2001 he joined the U.S. Army and for the next five years witnessed war first hand and the mark it
leaves on the rest of the world. This gave him the substance needed to view life, society, war,
relationships, the way they are. With the good and bad as it relates to the human condition, expressed
through art.
