I was born and raised in India but I lived and worked in cosmopolitan New York; a cosmopolitan city with a rich mixture of varied languages, people and traditions. Like NYC, contemporary visual culture itself is a blend of many mediums and realms such as fashion, music, art, architecture and design.
My transnational life impacts my work as a photographer. I draw influences and combine elements, which are rooted in my experience of eastern and western traditions. I combine elements from these visual cultural traditions to address the mutual influence they have had on one another.

The large scale color photographs combine visual projections, multiple exposures and sculptural poses to create visually intriguing abstractions that are rich in emotion and colour. The process of photographic abstraction that infuses the work is inspired by Robert Heinecken’s combination of super-imposed images and Lucien Clergue’s usage of light on bodies to construct shapes and abstracted forms.
No culture exists or develops in isolation. This project challenges ideas of self-contained cultural purity and western cultural dominance.
