Erik Vanderbol was born in Montreal, raised in small-town Ontario, and has just recently moved to Vancouver. When he was a boy, he spent many nights at the kitchen table playing with lenses and Yashica bodies with his grandfather, who was a photographer. He's chased the opportunity to capture beauty through a lens ever since.

I strive to depict an "off the beaten trail" sort of beauty; edginess, contrast, old-school elegance, and unique beauty are the corner stones of his style. My portraits are Hollywood glamour meeting post-modern industrial. My landscapes and street photography are almost exclusively black & white, and I love playing with negative space to add an element of bleakness.

I'm heavily inspired by film-noir's use of shadow, stark and ethereal simplicity, and vintage color tones. I want the contrast between elegance and rawness to be at the foundation of every photo I take. I want to work with unique people from all walks of life. I want my photos to tell a story the same way your face can. Essentially, I think a good photo should capture the quintessence and beauty of a person or moment.


I'm hoping to break into the Tattoo/Alternative-Culture photography niche, and eventually start getting published, and really hone my craft. I take my photography and reputation seriously. I approach the creative process and my clients as I would if I were a barber, tattoo artist, or doctor. It should require patience, professionalism, perfectionism and careful thought. This applies especially when dealing with shoots involving nudity. These are my personal standards. Both of our time is valuable, so let's treat it as such.
