About Me

As a teenager, Eduardo Xavier developed his passion for dancing and drawing with pencil and charcoal; his sketches, mainly of landscapes and semi-nude female bodies, caught the attention of the judges who placed him in first place in several local and national drawing competitions.

He studied Business and Technology, but it wasn’t long before his fashion sense and his love for dancing and for costumes steered him towards his current career. While working as a computer technician in a big IT Company,Eduardo Xavier joined an Extreme Dance Group and started to create his own costumes for the shows.

In March 2003, an unexpected invitation of a friend to visit Australia was about to change Eduardo’s life forever. He immediately fell in love with Melbourne, the well known Australian Fashion Capital and decided to make a living there...

Eduardo Xavier continued to dance and create costumes for stage production. In 2007, he completed a course on Fashion Design and Stylist provided by the Institute of Fashion&Styling and in December the same year,Eduardo Xavier launched his debut collection: the show was held at Lotus Bar in February 2008. He named his collection “The Past in the Present”... after his passion for History and as a tribute to the Portuguese People, their entrepreneurship and adventurous spirit. He was inspired by important historical events and by great people of the time of the Portuguese Discoveries. In order to give it a personalised “Eduardo” touch, he used embellishments which symbolically represent a piece of the Portuguese History; the choice of colours, mainly black and white, along with the choice of fabrics like linen and cotton, elegantly create a link between historical sheen and contemporary sleek style.

His presence in Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival 2007 was of great importance for Eduardo Xavier as he won the public acclaim and sold his first suit: The Portuguese Empire - in which he had sewn the embellishments. “It was obviously a very special day for me... I felt I was not only selling a piece of clothing but also sharing a piece of History: the History of a glorious nation! It did mean a lot to me because it made me feel proud of my roots...” He stresses.

The year 2008 marks the beginning of a period of amazing growth of the brand:Eduardo Xavier moved temporarily to Mexico, where he received a very positive reaction to his collection. He showed his creations on Expo Boda México 2008 (Expo Wedding Mexico 2008) and Expo Moda 2008 (Expo Fashion 200), but the highlight of his 10 months in Mexico was when Eduardoorganised the After Party for World Tour Kanye West 2008 in City of Mexico; the singer Tony Williams wore one of Eduardo Xavier’s creation.

This was the perfect time to take the plunge and broaden his clientele:Eduardo Xavier signed a contract with the New Yorker Image Group LLC to represent him in the United States and since then Brad McCloskey, owner and COE of the company, has been wearing Eduardo Xavier.

Back to Portugal at the end of 2008, Eduardo took some time off to visit his family and prepare his next collection, which he launched in June 2009. Willing to express his own conception of fashion, Eduardo Xavier intends with this collection to create a new code of elegance. “What I strive to achieve with my designs is functional art; this marriage between function and a clear sense of personality and style is something I take very seriously”. Eduardo says.

The next 10 months ended up to be of utmost importance for Eduardo Xavier: he moved to New Zealand where the growing popularity of Eduardo’s designs reached a new level. Besides signing a join venture with Models and Talents Agency he established a long list of discriminating customers, socialites and celebrities. His exquisitely detailed and expertly crafted creations caught the eyes of noteworthy loyal clients such as the actors Mannu Bennet, Rob Williams, Will Hall, Kurt Stowers, and Adam Lee Williams; the photographer Peter Letunousky and many more. Eduardo Xavier showed his collections in many fashion and social events, having also had the opportunity to defend humanitarian causes. Gareth Typene wore Eduardo Xavier when hosting The Pink Ribbon Fashion Show Auckland 2010 for the Breast Cancer Foundation; Gerard Barton in Miss Lingerie New Zealand 2010 and Manu Bennet in Miss World New Zealand 2010, just to mention a few.

Eduardo Xavier designs for the confident man who wants to enhance his personal style. He uses the most luxurious fabrics and embroideries to create classic glamorous styles to suit the masculine forum. Quality and good taste identify his style for day and evening, and the word “tailored” repeatedly comes to mind. “My main concern has been to impart to my clients that a suit mustn’t be seen as a uniform, men must wear it with pleasure and confidence in the certainty they look elegant, fashion and comfortable. That’s the reason why I pay utmost attention to details and to the combination of functionality and style”. He adds.

Eduardo Xavier returned to Portugal in 2011 and signed a join venture contract with VIP Styling by Gonçalo Mello, who as a fashion and image consultant has been promoting Eduardo Xavier’s designs in VIP events, such as The Golden Globes Gala 2011, (the equivalent to the Oscars Academy Award in Portugal), where Gonçalo Mello was wearing Eduardo Xavier as well as the actor/ singerMarco Horácio who presented the award for The Best Portuguese Fashion Designer; Eduardo Xavier sponsored the American songwriter and singerEmanuel Gibson and the Gala for the First Anniversary of Eugénio Campos’sJewellery Store. Gonçalo Mello attended many social events, where he was photographed wearing Eduardo Xavier: the premiere of the show of Filipe La Feria, renowned Theatre Director in Portugal, the wedding of Sofia Tavares, an acclaimed TV Presenter and many many others. The violinist Pedro Stacattowore Eduardo Xavier on his Wedding day and so did the VIP Hairdresser José Resende when participating in the L’Oreal Gala in Las Palmas, Gran Canary, in September 2011.
