About Me

About myself - I believe everyone can be beautiful. It is up to the photographer to recognize the glance, the gesture, the subtle smile or laughter, and capture that moment. The photographer must decide the precise shot where a person's guard is dropped and beauty manifests itself. It is also up to the photographer to find a model's unique beauty, and not impose their own idea of what 'beautiful' is - too often these days photographers are simply reproducing images they have seen in magazines, which certainly do not suit all models. I have done weddings, family portraits, school portraits, and engagement photos, but my favorite is fashion and glamor.

I have spent time doing studio work, but prefer a more comfortable natural setting where real-life situations arise and can be captured. I like working on the streets, in coffee shops, pubs, parks, bridges, etc - any location that can foster and produce interesting series of photos. A photo session with me will never follow a formula, and every one will be unique. It is typically like 'hanging-out' and letting the photographic moments start to present themselves.

I am not interested in technical perfection. I want photos that evoke emotion and interest, even if the lighting is a bit dark or the photo is a bit grainy. Anyone can learn how to set up studio lights, meter, and have a model sit stone faced while you press the shutter release button. When you focus on the technical aspects too much you lose the naturalness of a photo - how can a model relax when you spend 10 minutes having him/her sit perfectly still while you set up lighting for a single shot?

I also thrive on spontaneity in photos. Forced photos are much like bad acting - you can see what they were going for but it is so apparent they are 'acting' that it is painful to watch.

My favorite photographer is Peter Lindbergh. He shot many iconic images of the supermodels. He is the master at the non-forced photo. He captures beauty in all its forms.

Other things about me - I have a PhD in brain cancer research, I am a distance runner, I love camping, hiking, skiing, golfing, and working out. And, I have an amazing wife and two year old son.

If you think your ambitions in modeling match my ambitions as a photographer lets meet up and capture some stunning images!!!
