Friends (9)About Me
I was always under the impression that you had to be tall in order to succeed as a model. Therefore, being a petite woman I never thought modeling was a possibility. That is until recently. I was at a charity event that held a silent auction. One of the items available was gift certificate for a makeover. I had been contemplating a change in my look. So I thought what a great opportunity! Plus the gift certificate included a photo shoot. I placed some bids and ended up the winner. I showed up for my appointment so excited about the makeover, not really giving the photo shoot a second thought. After about 3 hours, I left with the opposite feeling. The photo shoot was unbelievable. I had such a great time in front of the camera. It was one of the best experiences of my life. I shared the resulting photos with my friends and family. I received an overwhelming response. Several people suggested pursuing some modeling. I didn't think much of it until I stumbled upon the Bella Petite magazine website. It is an online publication specifically aimed at petite women. Ironically, they were (and still are) conducting a modeling contest. After some thought, I entered. I am pleased to say that they have requested additional photos from me. The editor-in-chief of the magazine suggested this website to me as a way to connect with photographers that might be willing to work for time for print. Their work will be published if I am selected as one of their many winners. Photographers of the winners will receive proper photo credits for tear sheets.
I am very excited about this new potential chapter in my life. At 41 years of age, I am finally pursuing one of my childhood aspirations. It just goes to show that you shouldn't let stereotypes or what others say you can or cannot do deter you from following your dreams.
