About Me

Me

I had my first experience with cosmetics when I looked through my mum’s handbag when I was 6 and found my mum’s bright red lipstick in her handbag. The fun I had with the lipstick that day I believe ignited the creative spark in me. Saying that, my initial inspiration behind my career in professional cosmetic artistry was after applying my own make up on my wedding day. Many of the wedding guests asked me who I had arranged to do my bridal make up and when I told them they were really surprised. I thought nothing of it and pursued my career in education and then, following the birth of my son, into retail management. However, after having attended a number weddings over the years and seeing the number of brides who paid a small fortune to have their make up done, I was surprised that more care and attention to detail wasn’t taken by the person applying their make up. After all your wedding day is supposed to be the most important day of your life (it is for us women anyway).

Qualifications – Asiana Bridal Academy

So I decided that if I was going to change my career path and follow a route into the world of cosmetic artistry I wanted to do it properly and learn the many skills and techniques required to be an exceptional cosmetic artist. I trained and qualified at the Asiana bridal academy in Birmingham and completed an intensive program which gave me an opportunity to not only learn how to apply bridal make up but to create many different looks, from TV & film to high fashion. The program is endorsed and accredited by the Guild of Beauty Therapists which certifies me to practice as a professional cosmetic artist. I have always excelled in art both at school and college and believe this has given me the license to blend both traditional and cosmetic art together.

Experience

To further my career and put into practice my qualification as a cosmetic artist I gave up my management career and pursued various roles with cosmetic companies. I currently work for a large cosmetic company and my role allows me to advise customers on skin care products. Importantly for me I am able to apply cosmetics on customers everyday which gives me frequent exposure to showcase and tune my skills, which is invaluable for a make up artist.

Specialism

I enjoy applying make up for all types of occasions and in all form, however, my specialist area is in Asian bridal make up, primarily because of my background and experience. It takes exceptional accuracy and precision to create the perfect look for the bride to be, particularly as the bridal garments will need to factored into the overall look. My artistic instinct invites me to create unique and distinctive facial designs for high fashion photo shoots, glamorous evening events and exhibitions. I carry an extensive range of products in my make up kit which include cosmetics from prestigious companies such as MAC, YSL and Dior.

A final thought

I just don’t think calling it “make up” does this art form justice; it is art of the highest degree and revere. I have always had a perfectionist approach and seek to recreate this art form to the highest level in each and every client on their special day.
