About Me

Janet Hinkle is a Canadian artist bridging the boundary between technology and the human form with the use of hyper-realistic portraiture and light based installation art.

Trained as a fine artist, her studies, although rooted in the classical Western art periods, allowed her to explore more contemporary works that pursue expression, abstraction, and improvisation; it was this balanced exposure to both the classical and the modern artistic practices that focused her work inherently on the human body in relation to technology.

As a photographer she transforms the human figure by building upon the body with commonplace materials to achieve a human silhouette in a reconditioned state. Her unorthodox and sometimes beautifully vile imagery suggests an unnatural stage of the human archetype's evolutionary processes.

As an installation artist she combines light, shape, and movement to represent the human figure in various states of transition. Her large scale works rely on light to emphasize and minimize features of the abstracted forms present in each piece.
