In the 1990’s, I was part of a creative hub that gathered at Manhattan Comics and Cards, formerly Back Date Magazine. At this old school comic book store, artists would gather regularly, for brainstorming sessions, talking about comics, movies and art, and generating new ideas.
I returned to sequential arts in 2007, after years of running NYC nightclubs and serving in the military, post 9/11. In 2009, after intensive study at The Joe Kubert School, he enrolled at the Art Students League and began to build his studio. In 2010, I started Blue Hive Studio (bluehivestudio.com), a network of exceptionally talented artists, working together to promote and develop new projects, such as The Big City Dare2Draw. The Dare2Draw is a mentoring and networking platform for all artists, an opportunity to connect with each other, face-to-face and encouraging good health and business practices for cartoonists. Established artists and arts organizations meet in a supportive setting, putting the art back in sequential art. There are contests and prizes, with a fun and engaging game show vibe. We'll continue to showcase established artists we all love and new artists to keep an eye out for!
