About Me

Floating all throughout his childhood life with no clear direction nor passion, it was not until entering community college that Felipe developed his appreciation for photography and fine art. The biggest root to have sparked his interested can be associated with his first semester at college. With a lack of urgency, he signed up for his classes late, leaving only a limited selection to choose from. It was only through his lack of prioritizing did he take up his first class with the camera: photojournalism.
At the beginning of his artistic awakening, Felipe’s subject matter was capturing the counterculture of young adults in the music scene of ska and punk shows. His images consisted of backyard shows, police raids, band performances, mosh pits, fashion from the scene, and everything in between.
After his photojournalism class he was hooked and was enveloped with the documentary aspect of photography for his own personal appreciation. After a while of refining his own style of documenting the ska and punk scene, he decided to extend his horizon in photography as well as his education and began looking at the fine art aspect. His attention was held captive over the genre of narrative photography after looking at the works of Liz Houston. The shift in style rippled and radiated in his new work with pretty girls in dark contexts.
Currently, Felipe is branching out over to composite photography which was also a result from the admiration of Liz Houston and other composite photographers. Narrative subject matter is still the emphasis of most work. Themes of frailty and entrapment can be described in most pieces done by the artist. He hopes to obtain a higher comprehension of technical skill as well as a stronger conceptual vision with his future works.
