About
I am a Chicago-based student of fine art photography, currently looking for a gallery space to show my works.

Story
I first took an interest in fine art photography during my visit to New York City when I was around 15 years old. I came across a book by Jock Sturges, “Last Day of Summer”.

I was mesmerized by the beautiful tones from his 8x10 large format camera. In following years, I had a chance to see his actual prints at gallery in different places in the world. The quality of the silver gelatin prints from an actual 8x10 film cannot be compared with anything else.

Then I forgot about the fine art photography. I grew up in Japan, where the rigid social norm has a strong grip on how people act, think and make life choices. It never occurred to me that I can pursue fine art photography in Japan. I chose to study for college preparation, went to university and then to graduate school studying survey sampling statistics, that I happen to realize I am good at.

15 years later, I decided I would like to explore the world of fine art photography. Life is short and unpredictable – I could be hit by a car and die anytime. Therefore, I want to spend my time working towards the craft and art that I love and enjoy.

Tools
My optical tools are simple: I have a full frame DSLR from Canon and two lenses, 50mm and 85mm. I recently obtained a small but powerful camera made by Sigma. Most of the recent work with Nathalia and Kelsey are taken with this magic camera.

I have several studio flashes and portable flashes for travel. I use and make an extensive set of light modifiers to obtain the effects I need.
