About Me

I am a Charlotte NC native which is rare these days. I consider myself to be a "self taught" artist. I have always enjoyed creating works of art in subject matter such as landscapes, seascapes, floral, architecture etc, however, in the past 5 years I have focused my attention on the Nude Male Form as subject matter with soft pastels and charcoal as the primary mediums.

I have been successful in selling my pastel paintings and drawings of the nude male all over the country and have gradually built a client base. I am always looking to expand my portfolio and experience which is continuously evolving with regards to various other mediums.

My second profession was a web/graphic designer of 6 years for a major furniture retail chain until the economy went south and I was laid off. Needless to say, over a year now being unemployed in the private sector, I have had a great deal of time exploring other artistic creations. I have been exploring photography in a different approach to art. I have always been fascinated with vintage photography from the 1800s through the turn of the century. With the understanding during these periods, the cultures were much more tame versus taboo. If you are by chance able to find photographs from these periods in time that are of the "nude" genre, they are very subtle by todays standards in so much as to say, a photograph of someone in their undies would be considered socially immoral.

Once in a while you can be lucky enough to come upon vintage / Victorian photographs that will show nudity ( generally nothing more than the female breast ).
However, it is even more rare to find vintage photos of the period, showing the nude male or any photos depicting the homosexual relationships between men which was unheard of.

I have recently been creating faux vintage photographs of nude men that appear to have been taken during the late 1800's - turn of the century and with my eperimenting with various concepts, It has been impressive thus far. It is a great experience being that Im not 1. a professional photographer by trade requiring thousands of dollars worth of expensive camera equipment. 2. doesnt require much more than a standard camera and some artistic creativity.

By todays standards, many consider such imagery fakers, image manipulators via computer/digital design software. Lets face it, people are doctoring videos on various website social outlets that appear to be footage of HFO's or aliens and can often be very deceptive and yet, creative. I feel, "it's not WHAT you do, but HOW you do it and present it---as a deception? or creative work of art?". Regardless, it took creativity to accomplish.

All of my work is created from scratch and not by some special dedicated software in which at the click of a button, you have a vintage looking photo. Each one that I have created thus far has taken a couple of hours to create and get as realistic as possible.

We all wonder what social behaviors of today, took place during the 1800s but were never spoken about much less displayed. I want to create ( some would say fantasy of homoerotica ) how photographs would have appeared during the period, "if" the behaviors were more socially acceptable. No, im not talking "porn", rather, nothing more/less that nude men in various non sexual poses that appear to be from 1800s and without the fear of god look on their face LOL..

Their are several photographers today that have worked in this subject matter using various camera filters that will change the photo to sepia or black/white. I actually go several steps further in creating the images.

Once again, I am always looking for new models to work with in creating drawings and paintings as well as for new creative projects discussed above.

COMPENSATION-
Currently, I am not able to offer much in the way of monetary compensation but feel free to discuss your requirements. When creating my drawings and pastel paintings, I do not require a live model to sit during the whole time it takes to create the piece being that it's understandably difficult for someone to sit or lay in the same position without movement for so long. As well, It's usually hard for me to paint/draw/sketch while someone is watching me ( it's my ocd ). I prefer to take a few photographs in the desired poses in which case I would have more time to dedicate to the art piece without feeling rushed or under time constraints or pressure. It allows me to focus more on attention to detail.

I would of course give the model photographs taken as well as a one of a kind pastel painting to keep for themselves. In addition, any publication such as signed/numbered prints of any artwork created, I would be more than happy to set up royalty payments of the sells associated with the art work.

Likewise, any creative photographs I design as "vintage depictions of nude males during the time period", I would give copies of the works of art to the model to ad to their portfolio or simply for kicks..Being that this is a new avenue of art I have been toying with the more experience I get, the better I become as an artist.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to read my profile and bio. Good luck to everyone in their career endeavors !

Bobby B.
