About Me

I am a professional Photographer with a masters degree in Fine Art... I am generally a portrait photographer, I love photographing people! I tend stick to the fine art stuff although I have done commercial work as well.

Artist Statement:

Photography’s ability to illustrate appearances excites even the least narcissistic among us. Everyone wants to look his or her best in front of a camera. In this way, how we choose to present ourselves and how we wish to be identified becomes something that is completely surface.
The photographic world in the digital age has become a much larger place, the digital image can be boundlessly reproduced and transmitted and displayed in all its glory on the glowing light of every home computer screen, laptop, iPhone, blog and facebook page. The sheer virility of today’s digital culture is undeniably implied in my work. The digital negative in essence becomes the relic of an ephemeral moment, a fraction of a second performance captured in light, converted in to code, and spread like disease through the seemingly infinite borrows and cockles of The Internet.
In a time when photo-shopped images and completely unrealistic appearances have become the norm, I have decided to dive deep into the shallow waters of superficiality. My images are unedited portraits, where I have pre-painted on perfection. The waxy sheen of a homogenized skin tone simultaneously conceals and reveals the dark truth; no one is perfect, and our obsession with the exterior may just be the surface level of our own superficiality.
I have always been very compelled by portraiture; throughout history portraits have been created for people of privilege and power, and as a means of affirming their authority. Photography made portraits more available to the masses, but the ridged poses of the first formal photographic portraits have always captured my imagination and influenced my aesthetic.
Ultimately I love looking at people, the human face and body are the most diverse media you can work with. Ever changing but frozen in the single moment of the photograph. In that moment a person can live, die, and be reborn as some thing new and strange or old and beautiful, something deeply personal, or profoundly surface.
