During our lifetime, we have been fortunate enough to encounter very few musical icons and legends that have shaped and molded the music industry. Each of these stars have shared their musical talents with the world and influenced the lives of many. Though these legends are a rarity, on September 8, 1989, another young star was born. Singing sensation and producer “Matt B.” was raised in Chicago, Illinois as one of seven talented children. He discovered his passion for music at a very early age and spent his entire childhood singing and performing with his two older brothers, Aaron & Timothy Benson. Eventually, the three formed a singing group and branded themselves as ‘TriEnd’. The talented group amazed several crowds across the nation and worked with some of music’s leading producers, such as the Insomniax and John Monopoly. Though he was humbled by the great success he experienced with TriEnd, Matt B. felt that he had more love and inspiration to offer to the world. He wanted to create music that would bring him closer to his audience and encourage people of all ages in different areas of their lives. As a result, Matt B. split from TriEnd and branched into a solo career of his own. He spent months incubating and developing a new sound and ambiance for himself as a soloist. Drawing his inspiration from Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, and Usher, his self-titled album “Matt B.:301B” was released on January 25, 2011. The original album was a clever fusion of pop, hip-hop, and R&B, which created a fresh, new genre that he called ‘Poppin’ R&B’. Fans embraced his album across the nation, which inspired him to push himself to greater limits within his career. Matt B. released his first mixtape, “Freakology”, on June 24, 2011; which was designed to cater to his R&B-loving audiences. His smooth, velvet-like vocals blended with his seductively ingenious lyrics to create an artistically explicit realm firmly basing itself within R&B roots. Throughout the duration of 2011, “Freakology” buzzed greatly in the Chicago-land area, which helped Matt B. develop an even stronger fan base that supported his career. With the success of “Freakology” pushing him up the scale within the music industry, he decided to have a complete metamorphosis in 2012. After displaying his musical versatility throughout 2011, he decided to explore his passion for pop music and mold a ‘new & improved Matt B.’. “I have always had a passion for pop music,” Matt B. stated in an interview, “the upbeat tempo just makes you want to dance. I want to bring love and joy to all of my fans, and the best way to do so is through the pop vibe.” With his fans as inspiration and his undying passion for music driving his heart, “TecknoColor”—his second mixtape—was crafted and released on January 25, 2012. He uniquely blended techno & pop to create a musical spectrum of upbeat, futuristic dance tracks that appeal to people of all ages. Matt B.’s persistent drive and pursuit for success in the music industry has caused him to come face to face with his dreams. He has grown into an exceptional artist and is rapidly developing into a Chicago musical icon. He hopes to continue to share his music with audiences worldwide and make a difference in the world. “I am my music, and my music is me,” he passionately stated, “Music is what I love. I eat, sleep, and breathe music, and I want to share my experiences with the world through my craft.”
