About Me

I will no longer be doing constant freelance TF shots.

My name is Lara and I am an ongoing student of photography. I have been working in the craft for nearly ten years. My first media experience was working press at the CMA festivals in Nashville, TN for the last two summers of high school. From the year 2011-2013 I was a paid photographer for the NCSW league in association with the National Wrestling Association and I worked on set photographing locations, actors, and scenes for the indipendent film NC-87 in the year 2013. I have worked in excess of 25 local male models, assisted Las Vegas photographer Jaz of Junspoken with an editorial shoot, and traveled to Braunschweig, Germany to photograph a meet and greet with the classic rock band Oomph! over the past few years. As of 2014 I have resigned all free-lance and paid photography work and have focused all of my efforts on cosplay photography and currently I shoot with the Cannon Rebel T3 with a mounted flash and multiple lenses.

Previously I have been a gothic theme photographer. I have worked behind the scenes of independent films and am willing to collaborate with any director, novelist, or screen writer with small film casting. My favorite artistic lighting style is over exposure though I don't use it often unless the shoot is meant for it. I am currently shooting with the Cannon Rebel XSi, the Cannon Rebel T3, and recently acquired a fish eye lens to better equip myself for group shoots. I also recently acquired a video camera and have gotten int he habit of filming parts of my shoots; some even have scripts. I pride myself in being an Eco-Friendly photographer meaning I do everything digitally (no matter how much I love the dark room) to save the wasted photo paper on frames that clients don't want. I give a flash drive (paid for through minimum compensation) with the photographs edited and intact in printable sizes OR if you agree to TF I send images via email so no compensation is involved. I look up to the character designs of Tim Burton and my edits are a reflection of the grey scale and color pop you notice in his works. I do not photograph maternity, babies, nudes, and will not photograph anyone in anything less than a swim suit unless I am shooting bridal boudoir.

I focus more on photographing males though I enjoy the art of any model and any subject. I do, however, identify myself as a male model photographer.
Why males? I find that male models are not only easier to work with but are also open to concepts and unafraid to break artistic boundaries as well as work with me to create the best shots rather than working against me. Photographing the male body is interesting to me, I find it far more beautiful of that of a female model and enjoy the lack of limitations that a male model provides. Some of my favorite professional male models include but are not limited to Andrej Pejic, Josh Beech, Ian Mellencamp, Paul Boche, Bartek Borowiec, Mihael Tntiuc, Ethan James, Marcel Castenmiller, Oskar Tranum, John Cherkas, and Tomek Szczukiecki.

I have worked with a variety of local male models building their portfolios and at this time I am open for doing TF shoots for male models and group shoots only.

Group shoots must follow my idea frames. If you would like to be included in group shoots please feel free to contact me and I will find the characters right for you. We focus on gothic story telling and recreating fairy tales at through Lara's Lens. At this time we are finishing up gothic recreations of "Frankenstein: A Monster's Love" and "Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde " as well as a "Fairy Tale Series" and "Forest Fiction Series" involving male and female faeries and elves and photographing L's Creations latest clothing collections "Bohemian Punk" and "To England". We are searching for female models to help with these projects.

My rate for all others is $30 per hour and I will not pay you unless someone is paying me. I do not give out RAW photos; this includes all copies of all photos taken. If I don't like it, you are not getting it. I will choose the images I like the best to enhance and copyright the images before I email them to you. Models I work with get between 5 and 10 images (some get many more if we have worked together more than once). I do NOT give the model permission to alter, edit, deface, manipulate, or crop my images, however, I do give them rights to use them the way they are given to them and will sign a release form on letterhead if you wish to have them printed. All emailed files are in 8x10 size unless otherwise requested prior to editing. It takes from three weeks to a month to edit some photographs and it will take longer if you are constantly bugging me about your images. I take pride in my work but also have a lot on my plate at all times. If you are not patient you probably shouldn't work with me but I do deliver the best quality images that I can over the allotted time. I do not tolerate nagging from TF shoot models and am not above scrapping shoots if you are to persistent about receiving your photographs if I have told you that I have paid sessions in editing. Paid shoots are top priority. That being said, just because you paid doesn't make me work faster. If you want quality edits you will wait patiently until I am finished. I edit by priority. If I shoot a family portrait, a bride's boudoir session, and a model I will edit the bride's session first, then the family, then the model because it's obvious that the bride will need her photographs before the family and the family will need their shots before the model. I work fairly and try to give updates on my editing but will not tolerate nagging from anyone.

How I conduct themed/group shoots: I am a very relaxed yet professional photographer. I don't mind a little joking around and I enjoy it when models act out the scenes given to them. Acting the scenes gives me the opportunity to capture realistic expressions, however, I also ask that every model be prepared to run through their role a few times if this is the method they take so that I'm sure to get a productive shot. I find this method to be both fun and productive and models tend to express themselves better than if they were posed inch by inch.

If you would like to book with Through Lara's Lens please let me know and we'll see what we can work out. If you would like for me to travel more than an hour out of Greensboro I would like to have my rates met but don't hesitate to request a TF shoot and we might be able to work something out depending on the distance I have to travel. I am available on weekdays only and usually after 3pm. Summer hours vary depending on travel schedules. Message for precise availability.

Travel: I will travel anywhere in the continental US but MUST have a place to stay overnight unless I am scheduled to get there and leave the same day.

My latest travel notice: Through Lara's Lens is not traveling at this time.

Just so you know: It takes a lot to slow me down. I will shoot in light rain and cold conditions. Destroying Neverland and The Decay of Oz was shot in the rain. The Homeless shoot and The Seven Deadly Sins were shot in freezing weather. If you are a good model you will know how to push through the elements and I stick to my deadlines as much as possible.

My work has been published! I shot the author photo for the novel "Riversong: Book One of the Natural Progression"

-Shoot Rules-
Cell phones MUST BE OFF: I know it's become a necessary part of you but I promise you won't die with it off for a few hours and if you do mess with your phone during my shoot I will ask you to put it in my bin. Don't make me act like a kindergarten teacher; don't play with your phone during a shoot. (this only applies to those with escorts and those that have worked with me before)
***Don't mess with my art. When I send you a photo do not crop or edit my image to suit your desires. If you think something would look better for your portfolio suggest it to me and let ME edit it.
*Do not ask me for gas money. We've come to a mutual understanding prior to you showing up to shoot and I expect you to conduct yourself professionally.
*No PDA! I will and have shot models that are dating but I will not tolerate any unprofessional activity on my set. This also includes dating or number exchange. Do not give your contact information to a model, stylist, or MUA on set of a Through Lara's Lens shoot if you are looking for anything more than the use of their professional services. (any personal exchange like this can be done off of my clock). This can also apply to the reverse: do not bring your problems or anger to my set. If you're asked to work with someone you're not on good terms with let me know before shooting!

~Escorts~
I do allow escorts, however, I do not allow the following as an escort:
> Significant Others (this does not apply to out of state shoots/exceptions)
> MUA
> Stylists
> Photographers
Your escort can be a family member, friend, or guard but I do not want anyone with the above credentials to be on my set unless invited by Through Lara's Lens.
