Eric Maekawa is a hairdresser and makeup artist from the state of São Paulo. He works in advertising and fashion, teaching courses and workshops, training professionals and performing at events and shows for international cosmetic brands.

He began his professional career after encouragement from his mother, who worked for nearly thirty years in the beauty industry. "I was raised in a beauty salon and this made me passionate about this profession."

His passion for beauty and fascination with art allowed him to combine business with pleasure, where creativity has no limits. Eric's hobby is also his work. He devotes much of his spare time to studying fashion and beauty which is, in turn, a source of inspiration for new creations.

In February 2005, he joined the MATRIX education team in Brazil, becoming responsible for the development of brand education in the southern states of the country.

During this period, he specialized in relaxers techniques with Joe Santi, an expert in this field in the United States.

Eric expanded his knowledge in chemistry and color, participating in training with Cynthia Pitchford, an expert in color who worked for a number of years in Matrix as a global director of education for the brand.

Every year Eric attends the B.E.M. (Brazil Education Meeting) where professionals connected with the Matrix brand in Latin America meet to exchange techniques and trends and where courses are taught by professionals such as: Cynthia Pitchford (New York-USA), Daniel Roldan (New York-USA), Dan Csisai (Los Angeles-USA), Derrick Rutherford (Quebec-Canada) and Ammon Carver (New York-USA), Marlene Arce (New York-USA), among others.

In June 2008, he participated in the Matrix Destination event in Las Vegas, one of the largest training events for hair stylists in the world. The event helped to bring new techniques and inspiration in hairstyling, color and trends to his work.

In February 2010, Eric participated in Beauty ART, the most important makeup contest in Brazil, promoted by AVON. He was a finalist in the editorial, advertising and catwalk categories and the eventual winner of the latter.

In June of the same year, he was in New York to participate in the 2010 Latin America Training. A select group of Matrix South America professionals were invited to participate in training to develop techniques for presenting shows.

At the beginning of 2011, he taught the techniques and trends in color and hairstyling training course at the Matrix Dream Journey event in Barcelona.

Eric currently resides in Porto Alegre where he manages his schedule, attending to clients and working as a Matrix Global Design
Team Artist, traveling throughout the world.
