I joined this site hoping to meet other photographers in the area and learn from their work, and to meet local models willing to work for reasonable compensation as I build experience, skills, and a portfolio to show for my work. Although establishing myself here may be a challenge, portfolio samples, credits, and comments from established members I've met in person built over time should do a great deal to overcome the reasonable "random GWC looking for model" suspicion.

I am fairly new to "serious photography". I am a technical person by profession and nature, and I am dating a professional photographer. The seductive lure of megapixels, f-stops, radio triggers, exposure meters, USB tethering, infrared, image editing software, and feminine beauty is hard to resist.

However, my girlfriend and I are right/left brain opposites... ask her how a CD works and her first thought is all the great music you can put in a player and press play. My first thought is, "Well, there is a reflective layer and an opaque layer with slits sandwiched between to thick layers of clear polycarbonate, and the laser...". We are both horribly uncomfortable in front of the camera ourselves. We live a two hour drive apart. So rather than frustrating us both by trying to learn the basics from her, I am pursuing "independent study" to master the basics with her assistance.
