About Me

Photography is an intense passion of mine that developed quite unexpectedly. What began as a way to chronicle important moments has since morphed into an expression of art fueled by an appreciation for the visual beauty the world surrounds us with. I have explored both film and digital media and continue to use both where appropriate -- and sometimes where inappropriate -- that is, venturing outside of my comfort zone to challenge myself and achieve unexpected artistic results. New to the world of fashion photography, I have joined Model Mayhem to broaden my experience, refine my skills, and make new connections with talented artists.

I first began shooting digital in 2002 when I got my Canon PowerShot G2. The ability to immediately load photos on my computer for retouch and edit simplified and expedited the photo production process immensely. I lived in Barcelona during that time and took some of my all-time favorite shots, including a panorama of the entire city taken from above the olympic stadium and Plaça d'Espanya, which I manually photostitched with Photoshop -- long before plug-ins were available for these kinds of things.

A few years later I obtained my first DSLR camera, a Nikon D40, which I still take out for the fun of it every once in awhile. Nowadays my primary camera of choice for photoshoots is my Canon 5D Mark II with a series of prime lenses. When I first shot with a full frame digital camera I fell in love with the bokeh effects and incredible sharpness I could achieve -- not to mention incredible low light performance! After all, lighting is the most important aspect of photography and being able to shoot handheld in low light without a flash opens up new doors of creativity.

I perform all digital retouching myself. I shoot only in RAW format and maintain a Lightroom library for each shoot -- this allows amazing post processing flexibility to adjust white balance, correct barrel distortion, adjust shadow/highlight curves, and so on. I also use Photoshop for more refined retouching, and I always appreciate feedback from models on what their expectations are for photo processing.

I live in Palo Alto but I am willing to travel throughout the Bay Area for photoshoots, and depending on the assignment perhaps farther. I am currently working on a website with a complete portfolio of my work -- it will be online by the start of 2012. In the meantime, please contact me directly for additional information and I look forward to working with fellow MMers!
