A long, long time ago (like, before I was born) people thought that the camera was a device to steal your soul. They thought that having an image taken of them would damage one of the thirteen parts of the soul. This belief steams, some say, from the idea that the mirror image of a person was a doorway into another world and that our two worlds should never meet.

I embrace both worlds.

I capture souls not only for the sake of posterity, but for the sake of filling the little jar I keep next to my bed. When I'm cold or lonely, I just shake that little jar and the souls flutter around, glowing, their wings aflutter against the glass.

Photography is art, and art is the closest thing we can come to making our own souls.
