After watching James Whale's Frankenstein at three years old, and having it thoroughly explained to me that the monster was just Boris Karloff in makeup, my next question was, "How'd they do that?" My fascination has never waned, and to this day, I always want to know how "they" did "that."
I attended Tom Savini's Special Makeup Effects Program, which is a 16-month long course, during which, one learns lifecasting, sculpting, mold-making, fabrication, application - just about every technique used in the special makeup effects field. I say "just about" because new techniques are being developed and discovered all the time, and I'm doing my best to stay on top of those as well.
After school, I moved back home to Virginia, to the understandable dismay of my friends who were moving to L.A. Even so, I managed to stay busy in my field by seeking out work at a local theatre, Sycamore Rouge, doing bald caps, old age, fairy ears - whatever they asked of me. From there, through a series of projects and connections, I found myself working with Fangoria Entertainment's Richmond branch on the set of GWAR's music video, "Zombies, March!". I quickly became part of the Fango crew and continued working with them on short films and commercials, doing everything from carving werewolf feet out of insulation foam and laying hair on them, to fabricating an autopsied torso that would rip open and drop its guts out.
I am well-versed in all kinds of makeup, but monsters and gore are by far my favorites. When someone tells me that what I do is horrifying, I thank them sincerely. I'll take a visceral reaction over a polite compliment any day. To know that my work has deeply affected someone, just as Frankenstein's monster affected me, is the greatest compliment I can receive.
Coming from humble beginnings and now living and working in Hollywood, I have a great appreciation for the opportunities in front of me, and I'm always looking for the next one.

So enough about me. Let's talk about us.
After years of hard work and dedication, my time has become valuable to more than just me. I've finally reached the point where people are willing to pay me to do what I love. I hope you are one of these people. Though I am occasionally open to other possibilities, I do need to be getting something in return other than a cool portfolio piece. No offense, but I can do that on my own. And no, I don't mean drugs or sex. What do I mean? Depends. What have you got? A rare, out-of-print DVD, perhaps? A monkey's paw? A Mogwai? There are many possibilities.

From cuts to creature suits, I'm open to just about any project. Nothing to big or small. If need be, I can pull together a team of my friends (who are no slouches, mind you) to get your project looking good and done on time. On the other end of things, I can show up with some latex and cotton balls and be done in an hour. That being said, I'm sure you can tell that the going rate for practical special effects varies wildly. The bigger the project, the more time and supplies I'm going to need, the more you're going to have to pay. I will account for supply costs, and I will make sure I'm getting paid, but I will be fair with the price I quote you, and I'm not open to much negotiation...unless you have a Mogwai. Then we can talk.
