I am an amateur. Much of my fun work is done at Madison's Inferno Nightclub, and much of that at Leather + Lace events. I sometimes do private photo shoots. This is just for fun, though I do occasional professional shoots for money.

I've focused a lot of attention in recent years on dark room shots, particularly at venues like Inferno. When people move around a lot in the dark, it is difficult to get good shots. The typical solution to this is to use flashes, but these tend to drown out the low ambient lighting that gives a place like Inferno its feel. The alternative of setting up several remotely activated flashes around the space tends to ruin the spontaneity I want. I've developed a solution that involves long exposures (1/4 to 2 seconds) and a handheld flash. The result usually has the rich coloration of the backdrop, but also a crisp, non-blurry foreground figure. Some of my shots using this technique take on a ghostly quality because of background blur or multiple flashes from strobe lights.
