About Me

MA fashion Design. Designer, cultural commentator, university lecturer in design.
My work explores African peoples’ identity and style. I have worked a lot in the Bashment or commercial dancehall reggae scene where style is big, broad and sexy.
As well as creating the clothes I also produce the photographs and the digital illustrations. I have shown collections across the UK and my illustrations have been selected for the Liverpool Biennial International Festival of Contemporary Art and the Futuresonic Urban Festival of. Art, Music & Ideas in Manchester on a several occasions, as well as the Big Book of Fashion Illustration by Martin Dawber, published by Batsford Books in 2008.I have made keynote addresses at national and international conferences on cultural diversity and the arts and have had articles and papers published by such as the Observer Newspaper and the Arts Council of England. I have also made numerous television and radio broadcasts around areas of black style and popular culture.
My recent work explores cultural issue such as the beauty of the African woman and using traditional African ideas to create contemporary style. To this end I have moved beyond runway shows into bashment shows in clubs and exhibitions in galleries.
