Heavily influenced by music, fashion and world travel, photographer Jimi Rae is celebrated for his award-winning combination of documentary, photojournalism and portraiture. From international recording artist to unknown faces shot on location in Africa or China, Jimi's eye for narrative ensures that his images are character-driven.

Jimi is renowned for his ability to blend social documentary and portraiture in an informal and fluid approach. The resulting style allows him to create arresting images of iconic events whilst avoiding cliche. In 2007 and again in 2009, he travelled to Nairobi with The Sumerian Foundation to shoot a fresh series of images depicting the positivity of the people there and in 2008 he captured the human faces of the G8 protests to widespread acclaim.

A Glaswegian based in London, Jimi is fascinated by urban living and city dynamics, particularly the music scene. From live shoots on location to staged album covers and artist profiles, his images illustrate the energy and charisma of the musicians. Attracted to their passion, creativity and integrity, Jimi finds satisfaction in shooting the people who produced the art themselves. He has worked with Manufractured Records, Spit and Polish Records and P-Vine Japan/Fusion Music. Other commercial clients include Red Bull, NHS and Johari Design, and his editorial work has appeared in national press, including the London Times Magazine and The Scotsman.

In 2009, his documentary series of work entitled "Protest" was awarded a Certificate of Honorable Mention from Europe's biggest and most prestigious photography competition, The Prix de la Photographie, Paris (Px3). A former winner of the Tom Gower Award for Photography, he has also been shortlisted for the Scottish First ScotRail Press Photography Awards.

A flexible, personable photographer who has worked in editorial and advertising both on location and in the studio, Jimi continues to create a body of work which is highly collectible.
