About Me

I have always been interested in the visual arts. I received and illustration degree from Utah Valley University in 2006. After that I joined an artist guild and began putting my work in galleries and festivals around Utah. One particular gallery I've been in since '07 is the Contemporary Design and Art Gallery in Salt Lake City, owned by Michael Melik.
In 2008 I felt the need to further my education. I was still very interested in visual art but I wanted to incorporate more mental and psychological perspectives to my work. So I went back to school to study psychology. I am currently in pursuit of my BS in psychology at the University of Utah, and am helping with research in virtual reality. There I am studying the psychological disciplines of visual cognition and human factors, as well as a minor in graphic design. This education will improve my artistic endeavors by giving me an in depth knowledge of light perception, visual organization, and perceptual flow.
These skills have proven useful in the development of a new painting/light art technique I’ve created. I have been producing paintings that react to certain frequencies of light. The lights change frequency (with the primary red, green, blue colors) in a pattern that assimilates with the paintings color pattern. This in turn gives the painting an illusion of movement. I also make it a point to use professional stage lighting for my work. This allows me to specifically pattern the lights the way I see fit, or even have them play of off music beats.
This style of artwork creates a completely new viewing experience in which one can witness a painting ebb and flow, or even move to music. Basically I have developed a technique that produces effects similar to that of the digital battery visualizations, but without a computer and produced on a 2D painted surface. Because of this unique aspect, my work has been desired at assorted clubs and as backdrop art for various musicians.
