About Me

Aqueelah Abdullah was born and raised in Rochester, NY in 1979, with a family of five siblings and a mother who was blessed with many creative gifts. Aqueelah’s mother showed her how to make quilts, rugs and many other things. She frequently took her to shows to help her sell her products. Aqueelah was great at selling to anyone and has kept that gift to advance to the newest adventure of fashion designing. Aqueelah started out in 2000 making clothes for a line called 585 Rocity here in Rochester, doing the manufacturing for the store and many fashion shows, from small to big. After she went on creating her own line called AA Maverick which at the time represented who she was. She would create things using scraps from metal, fabrics, even trash. She looks at fashion as art. The name Bipolar Couture’ came from one of her and her partner’s design which was the half blazer dress look. They decided take a look at the idea’s that Bipolar people have and create around there personality. Aqueelah say’s she knows a lot of people with the disorder and they happen to be the most creative high energy people she knows and are risk taker’s and she loves designing for them, they also can take on more than the average person. We decided to design around the personalities of people so that we can come up with unique styles for anyone and majority we created one of a kind pieces or limited editions.
