Vanatei, pronounced as Van-AH-Tee, was born and raised in Newark, New Jersey, also known as "Brick City", North Newark to be exact. She’s not your ordinary rapper and doesn’t try to be, it's just the way that she is. She loves anything that involves the creative side of the mind, that's where she’s usually at.

Vanatei has been rapping for many years, but has been writing and singing since a child. She comes from a musically driven household. Her father played the guitar with his band, mother was involved in modeling and theatre as a young adult, and her brother being a classically trained pianist. She’s a special kind of person, and her family is crazier. That's how she learned to be so different from everybody else, especially coming from a Brazilian and Peruvian background, which made her stand out from her community. Her parents worked hard so she’s learned to grind hard from their example. Since they worked a lot she spent most of the time with her grandmother and during Vanatei’s childhood she spent most of her time hanging out with friends around the neighborhood. She would be the only girl with a bunch of guys rapping and having a good time. Eventually that helped her step her game up lyrically. The male energy helped her gain the confidence she needed to establish herself as an artist. She revolves her life around her music and writes all of her lyrics/songs.

Vanatei went to the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. She knew she would either be doing music or invovlded with the design industry, well luckily she’s doing both. While at FIT she majored in Advertising Design and now owns a design firm based in New Jersey called dashMedia. Vanatei says, “It's a blessing to be your own boss and doing what you love.”
